The Basics
I'm Steven Dragan and I am an artist with a background in architecture. While I don't practice architecture anymore, it has influenced the way I see and capture the world, whether that's places or people.
Beginnings
My art grew out of a sketchbook from architecture school. I started with a thin tip pen to record the places I was...over time the sketches became colorful...then they became paintings...then they became bigger paintings.
What I love about Watercolor
My favorite thing about watercolor is that it forces you to invert the way you see light. In other words, rather than painting light, I'm always painting around the light.

Do you do other mediums?
My other favorite medium is Heavy Body Acrylic painted with a palette knife. The ability to incorporate dimensional texture and create large works is thrilling. However, I believe I still "see" in watercolor. Once you start to see light as something to preserve, to paint around, to see from the beginning, its hard to forget those lessons.
